I WILL FIGHT TO REDUCE RATES
I have been listening closely to the people of Waikanae over recent weeks, and your opinion on rate rises in overwhelming – enough is enough! As YOUR VOICE on council I will work aggressively to put a stop to the relentless and excessive rate rises.
Here are some sobering facts:
Waikanae Median house sale price, June to August 2013 = $380,700
Current rates on that value = $2600 per annum / $50 per week
Nett weekly Superannuation = $357.42 / single person $549.88 / couple
This means KCDC rates currently account for 14% of a single superannuitant’s income and 9.1% of a couples [sic] income.
Based on the proposed rate rises stated in KCDC’s Pre Election Report, in 3 years time the rates on the same property will be AT LEAST $3126 per annum or $60 per week – a 20% increase. That will be 16.6% of the single person’s super income – an increase from 14%.
And remember, the consumer price index is relatively steady at around 0.7% to 0.9%.
Is this REASONABLE? Is this RESPONSIBLE? And for many people in Waikanae, is this AFFORDABLE?
I say NO to all three questions, but all of the CURRENT councillors have voted YES and passed these rate increases.
If continuing rate rises, wasteful spending and escalating debt perturb you, vote for councillors who are prepared to voice YOUR concerns. I assure you most emphatically that I will do just that. QUENTIN POOLE

FOR BOP REGIONAL COUNCIL
Your answer to a responsive, innovative, and energetic regional councillor
I am committed to protecting our magnificent environment, providing great service, practical infrastructure, better business and good governance.
We have beautiful harbours, wetlands lakes and beaches and I want to see them looked after whilst being very careful to balance environmental protection and enhancement with the need to grow and enjoy our place.
We need to focus on affordable and reliable public transport, more networks of green space, walkways and cycleways, getting certainty for finishing road and rail projects. And I want to ensure the regional council provides support for investment in regional infrastructure and facilities such as its recent support to the new Tauranga University Campus.
I have served on the regional council for three years and am currently Chair of the Finance Committee, a Director of Quayside Holdings and a Trustee at the Enviro Hub. In this time we have been focused on doing business better, tasking the organisation with saving $750,000 in operating costs and working more efficiently.
